Background Information on Meetings:
One of the roles of the Center is to sponsor a biannual meeting focused on tribal environmental health research. These are called “Tribal Environmental Health Summits” (TEHS). This is an opportunity for members of the Network to showcase their latest research findings. Presenters can be community members, faculty at TCUs and Native-serving mainstream institutions, but especially those students who are directly involved with the research work. These meetings are also opportunities for representatives of funding agencies to attend and learn first hand the issues and work being done in Indian Country.
The inaugural meeting was in June 2014 on the campus of Salish Kootenai College (SKC), a tribal college in western Montana. The tab below contains videos of each talk and roundtable discussion, along with photos from the meeting and the pre-meeting social. This was a cruise on Flathead Lake on the “Shadow”, a ship operated by the tribal hotel, KwaTaqNuk, in Polson.
The next meeting, “TEHS 2018” will be held on the campus of Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR, June 25 – 26, 2018. Registration is now open and abstract submission are open until May 31st. More information can be found here.
